Let me tell you about it…

The Alpha Course is your opportunity to come along and talk about the meaning of life. The course invites people to ask and discuss life’s big questions like, 'What about suffering?' 'Who is this Jesus?' 'Can we trust the Bible?'

Alpha offers space away from life’s busy and often very hectic schedule to think about the things that really matter, and one of the great things about it is that no-one is ever put under any pressure. People are free to agree or to disagree. We’ll meet in The Hub at the front of Testwood Baptist Church for a light dinner & dessert first, followed by a presentation & then discussed in small groups.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is Alpha for?

The Alpha Course run at Testwood Baptist Church is open to anyone; however those under 15 may struggle with the content. You don’t have to go to church or have any religious background. If you want to think about why you are here and wonder whether Christianity has anything to answer life’s big questions, then Alpha is for you.

What happens on the night?

The pattern for a usual evening is to start with some home made soup and a dessert and then someone will give a talk focusing on a specific subject. Following a short break, people break up into groups (these stay the same throughout the course) and discuss what they’ve heard over a cup of coffee. Attendees are free to ask whatever they wish; no question will be ignored. The evening will end at a set time; however those who wish to continue their discussions afterwards are welcome to do so.

How do I sign up?

Before signing up to the full Alpha Course, you are very welcome to join us at an Alpha Supper. At this event we will interview a couple of people who have been through the course before, and then give an explanation as to how the course is run. There will be an opportunity at this event to sign up to the course, or of course you will be very welcome to say that it is not for you, there is no pressure to sign up to anything. Use the link further up or email alpha@testwoodbaptist.org to find out more.

How long is it?

The Alpha Course lasts for 10 weeks, and runs on Tuesday evenings.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha Course, it is completely financed by Testwood Baptist Church. Those volunteers who help throughout the course, whether setting up, catering, serving or clearing up, are all from the church.

What have people said?

“Very interesting & thought provoking.”

“I may follow this up at some stage.”

“Excellent food, interesting talks and good company! I have very much enjoyed Tuesday evenings, thank you so much!”

“I look forward to the follow on course.”

What happens after the course?

It’s up to you what happens next. Some people have linked in to the church, others haven’t. Some feel they’ve had their questions answered, some still have questions and want to keep searching. Some people want to keep meeting as a group, others have linked in to one of the other small groups run by the church. What nearly everybody has in common however, is that Alpha has been an incredibly positive experience for them.
